Closet Organizing

Closet Organization If you’re like me, your closet could be your happy place with the right systems and some decluttering. Hence this post. Today I’m sharing some basic (and not-so basic) tips to get your closet whipped into the wardrobe wonderland you always knew it could be.     First Things First You’ll want to have a good idea of how and where you want items stored. Will you be purchasing new hangers? If so, I recommend using all the same color. Know that until you’ve done your initial edit you won’t know with much certainty how many or what size boxes, bins, baskets, hooks or other products you’ll need, so if you don’t want to keep making trips to the store to purchase or return or keep placing online orders and waiting, it may be easier to plan for this to take a couple days to a week depending on your shopping needs and method. If you prefer to use items you already have stashed away, well, that’s even better! Before we get to the fun stuff, let’s take a minute t

Garage & Basement Organizing

Garages and basements are the areas of the home that seem to get the least love, but house the most. When they’re properly cared for and organized, they can serve us and our families much better.   Remember, don’t worry about what you see on television, online, and in magazines. I will always, always say your space and projects have to work for you and your budget. “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” Progress is progress.   Here are some ways to get your storage space to a point where you can better utilize and appreciate it.   First, what aesthetic are you going for, if any? What will this space or the spaces within the space be primarily used for? If it helps, draw a diagram or use a digital drafting app to somewhat plan it out, just to get a rough idea of where everything needs to be. Think about how you want things stored and areas to function. Will you be installing or moving in shelves, or do you prefer to stack bins and/or totes? I person

Small Bathroom Organizing

Do you struggle figuring out where to start organizing your small bathroom? No worries! Here are some great tips to help you get that ball rolling. As with any organizing project, you're going to need to completely clear the space, including the cabinets and drawers. Everything goes in the middle of the room on the floor. Clean out those cabinets & drawers. Now, sort your products by type. While doing this, toss anything you don't like, won't use, that is expired, or that is broken/unusable. For everything that's left, here are ways to get it back in and make it work for you: 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 A tiered tray on your counter. 2 or 3 tiers are perfect for containing clutter that otherwise may get sprawled everywhere. Store taller items on the top tier. A small multi-drawer unit for storing pain, cold, and allergy medicines that are regularly used. You don't have to keep it on the counter, this works under the sink or on a shelf as well. You can use labels, sticker

My First Professional Organizing Job

Image
Over the past several years I've been driving my aunt crazy and making her giddy at the same time. Every time I'm at her house I find some other area that is too cluttered or just doesn't make sense. My arch nemesis is actually her kitchen. It's very small, and the woman cooks like her life depends on it so she has thousands (just barely an exaggeration) of different pots/pans/small appliances/cooking utensils/FOOD STORAGE CONTAINERS and dishes. I've reorganized and decluttered this area and both "food" (and medicine, and papers and whatever else gets shoved in there) pantries countless times. We're from the South, so if a can is only a year or so out of date, you'd better just leave that in there. It's still good. 😑 Her house has been my main and most consistent practice. I used to alphabetize my CDs & DVDs. Can't relax if a space is too cluttered or messy. That kind of stuff. lol Just gonna say right here that about 12 years ago I wa

About Me

As this is my first blog post, it's only appropriate that I tell my lovely visitors a little bit about myself.  My name is Tina. Born and raised in Middle Tennessee. I'm married with 5 children, only one of whom one of us gave birth to. They range in age from 4 to 20. We're also the proud parents of fur children; 6 dogs and 2 cats. I graduated from a community college with a BS in Business Management that I never really used, but will be paying for long after I'm gone. Recently, I decided (for the thousandth time) that I want to be my own boss so that I can do something I actually enjoy and am good at, be more available to my kids & home, and actually have a chance to enjoy life. It's a process. Boy is it a process...... Aside from working for a busy medical practice dealing with new patients, social media marketing, and studying to possibly become certified in medical administration, now I'm a professional organizer. The one thing that isn't much of a
